2017 Golf Trip/Animal House Program

Boys, it’s time to get it on!!  We’re almost there!

This is a fun, take the golf serious and the good times seriouser, Golf Trip.  This is all about the GOLF TRIP SPIRT!

REMEMBER THE CORE GOLF TRIP RULES:

  1. This is everyone’s golf trip, not yours. This isn’t the “______ Trip.”  Everyone has to contribute to have a fun trip.  I’ve seen some guy’s actions ruin the fun for someone else.

  1. A lot of work goes into organizing this, probably too much, so don’t be that guy that moans about the small things. Be liquid, roll with the punches.  Leave the high maintenance at home.

  1. I am the last guy to say don’t take the golf so seriously. I know.  Your bad round or good round isn’t making the TSN highlight package.  We are all there to have fun and guys are spending good money and good time, let’s not let our bad rounds spoil the fun for an entire group.  See also #1.

  1. If your team is out of it, just remember there are a whole bunch of guys that are still in it and we’ll need your continued energy to make this fun! Think about your historical Golf Trip stats if you need motivation.

  1. Pick your own tee box.  Guys are spending time and money on this trip. We aren’t all the same level, so you play whatever tee boxes you feel comfortable with.  Guys aren’t coming up there to break course records, they’re coming for fun.  I don’t care what anyone says, you do what you like.

  1. Don’t be that Thursday guy. Don’t get wasted to the point of no return on Thursday night.  Like clockwork, guys go crazy on that Thursday night and the number of times I’ve seen Friday and Saturday rounds ruined is countless.  Play the long game here.  Think about all four days when you’re thinking about that next drink on Thursday.

  1. Be on time! Actually the past couple years everyone has been awesome, but don’t be Lorne and Nathan ordering French toast 2 minutes before your tee time.  Come on…guys are counting on you.

  1. I never heard it, but no Justin Bieber playing when you’re golfing. In other words, no music in the real rounds.  Maybe in the goofy rounds if you’re group desires.

  1. We are spending 4 days, 6 rounds together…there will be some friction. We all don’t have the same personality.  Keep that in mind!

  1. Finally have fun. Everyone has a job to contribute in their own way.  I wanna see that Golf Trip Spirt! Showing your energy, having fun, it trickles down throughout the trip.  Smile and pass it on!

If you have any other thoughts or comments, we wanna hear it.  Like I said, guys are shelling out some resources here, so let’s have fun.  I know from the past, this is the best weekend of the year.

ANIMAL HOUSE TOURNEY:

On to the next topic….the Animal House tourney.  There doesn’t need to be much explanation anymore, but here’s what you need to know:

  • The team with the most points wins.
  • This is not complicated.
  • A professionally made scoreboard will be supplied.
  • This is the 4th running of the current Animal House format and is more or less the same as previous years with some minor tweaks and adjustments.
  • Everyone throws in $60 ($50 for the Animal House  tourney, $10 for the guess the number of birdies)  And we pay up front.  Actually most of you have paid up from in that $200 deposit.
  • Four teams of four golfers based on handicaps.
  • The game is all about collecting points for your squad to hoist the Animal House championship and win the money.
  • In the various rounds, teams will get into 2-somes and face off against other two-somes to collect points.
  • We’d love your input to improve if possible.  We’ll likely pretend to listen and then not change anything.

Points:

The points are the name of the game here folks.  You can earn points by winning matches, earning KPs and birdies.  In another words, matches, KPs and birdies get you points.

Teams:

Tier TIGERS BEARS SHARKS WALRUSES
A Jesse Moose Blake Holt
B Lorne Mark Kishone Jamie
C Steve Kevin Nathan Regan
D Erik Paul Stav Parley

Day 1 – June 22, 2017

Thoughts on the day:

  • OK I’m not certain what the plan is for everyone this with respect going up early etc…so this may be pointless, but let’s plan for breaky at the Home Restaurant in Hope at 8:00 am.  A golf trip tradition.  It’s four days of junk food, might as well start it early.  Well stay in touch regarding this.

  • Let’s aim to get to The Rise at 1130am-12pm.  Grub, birdie guesses, collecting of the money and general Golf Trip preamble goodness.

  • 2pm– Tee off time!

  • After this round we head back to Predator to check in and eat dinner.

Round 1 @ The Rise – 2pm tee off:

  • Bears vs Tigers, Walruses vs Sharks
  • Game: 2 vs 2 CHICAGO
  • Pairings: AD vs AD, BC vs BC
  • 4 points per match
  • 1 point for the best individual Chicago score for each of the Tiers
  • Total available points in Round 1 = 20 points

Moose and Paul

vs

Jesse and Erik

Moose and Jesse clash right out of the gate, along with Erik vs Paul?  And instant classic.  Fierce rivals squaring off asap!

Mark and Kevin

Vs

Lorne and Steve

Highschool friends faceoff against Kevin and Mark.  Kevin was there when Moose met Mark on that romantic round, it’s Kevin turn to have some alone time with Mark.

Holt and Parley

Vs

Blake and Stav

These storylines write themselves!  The first overall draft pick and his proud popa…Blake and Stav first round after Thursday Stav in 2015.

Jamie and Regan

Vs

Kishone and Nathan

Ronald Regan’s introduction into the Golf Trip includes two Golf Trip staples in Jamie and Nathan.  Meanwhile can Kishone stay sober to get the W?

Day 2 – June 23, 2017

Thoughts on the day:

  • This is an all Predator Day….first at 9am is the Ridge Course, then followed by the Predator Course.

  • Hopefully everyone isn’t hung over.

Round 2 @ Ridge Course – tee off at 9am

  • Sharks vs Tigers, Bears vs Walruses
  • Game: 2 vs 2 TWO MAN BEST BALL (also known as 4 ball)
  • Parings: AB vs AB, CD vs CD
  • 4 points per match
  • Total available points in Round 2 = 16 points

Steve and Erik

Vs

Nathan and Stav

Will Nathan be giving Stav father/son chat during this round about the previous night?  Steve and Erik in the same cart, eh…I wonder who will be the driver?

Jesse and Lorne

Vs

Blake and Kishone

Lorne vs Blake in the big AB rumble on Day 2…last year they were balls deep as partners now foes! Ditto for Kishone and Jesse!

Moose and Mark

Vs

Holt and Jamie

I felt like Mark played Jamie in 6 rounds last year, so we’re due for another.  And Moose and Holt..the two hottest golfers square off…the cameras will be following this match.

Kevin and Paul

Vs

Regan and Parley

Parley will make sure this group doesn’t set the record for the quietest group.

Round 3 @ Predator Course – tee off at 4pm

  • Game: THE MEDLEY* – it returns after a resounding yes vote!
  • 4 points per match
  • 2 points for the best AD score
  • 2 points for the best BC score
  • Total available points in Round 3 = 20 points

* Here’s how this work:

  • Holes 1-6:    Two man scramble (easy)
  • Holes 7-12:  Shamble (medium)
  • Holes 13-18  Alternate Shot (hard)
  • This is a stroke play event….not match play. You play till that ball is in the damn hole.
  • During the first 12 holes (scramble and shamble), each partnership must use at least 4 shots from each golfer.  The strategy is up to you.
  • Finally, just for clarity purposes, in the final 6 holes partners alternate tee shots.  It doesn’t matter who hit the last putt, the tee shots go back and forth.
  • Also note: During the alternate shot portion, every golfer still shoots for the KP.  However, the 2nd shot is played in accordance with alternate shot rules.

Blake and Stav

Vs

Jamie and Regan

By now, Blake & Stav will be #brosbeforehoes. Up against Jamie, if he can swing those two days off with 6 months’ notice, and Mr. Mulligan.

Jesse and Erik
vs
Mark and Kevin

Mark & Kevin could be in tough. Erik was unbelievable last year in the Medley, but will he be able to hold off Mark’s love affair with Drake.

Holt and Parley

Vs

Lorne and Steve

This the match to watch in this around.  Holt will be leaning on the 1st overall pick in Parley to pick apart Lorne and Steve.

Moose and Paul

Vs

Kishone and Nathan

I’m not sure Kishone can contain his excitement playing with Nathan for the second time trip.

Day 3 – June 24, 2017

Thoughts on the day:

  • How will guys be after two nights on the trip!

  • This is the opposite of the previous day. Opens with the Predator and ends with the Ridge. This time you’ll play the Predator course in a real format.

Round 4 @ Predator Course – tee off at 9am

  • Tigers vs Walruses, Bears vs Sharks
  • Game: 2 vs 2 TWO MAN COMBINED NET TOTAL SCORE MATCH PLAY (new this year)
  • Parings: AC vs AC, BD vs BD
  • This is simply the teams total strokes taken (net) vs your opponents in match play.
  • 4 points per match
  • 2 pts for best AC, 2 pts for best BD
  • Total available points in Round 2 = 20 points

Lorne and Erik

Vs

Jamie and Parley

Lorne vs Jamie…always a classic on the Trip…Will Jay make the tee time after a heavy night off dancing at the local discotheque.

Jesse and Steve

Vs

Holt and Regan

It took a while, but Holt gets to play with his roommate!

Moose and Kevin

Vs

Blake and Nathan

Somewhat of a rematch from 2015, when Blake and Nathan took down Moose and Parley after some night before trash talk.  Is Kevin the answer?

Mark and Paul

Vs

Kishone and Stav

This is a mixed bag of characters, eh? No connections to anyone except the fact they are on the trip!  Yikes.

Round 5 @ Ridge Course – tee off at 4pm

  • Game: TWO MAN SCRAMBLE STROKE PLAY (a Golf Trip classic)
  • 4 points per match
  • 2 points for the best A/B score
  • 2 points for the best C/D score
  • Total available points in Round 5 = 20 points

Kevin and Paul

Vs

Steve and Erik

It’s a golf trip tradition to have Paul and Erik square off in this match.  Will Kevin be talking about his round a year from now like last year??

Regan and Parley

Vs

Nathan and Stav

Nathan and Stav again and they’ll be in tough against the steady Regan and 1st overall Parley.

Moose and Mark

Vs

Holt and Jamie

We made sure Jamie was up against this duo once again after last year’s big push.

Blake and Kishone

Vs

Jesse and Lorne

This should be a dandy.  Blake puts his undefeated 2-man scramble on the line here.

Day 4 – June 25, 2017

Thoughts on the day:

  • It’ll be a bit sweet ending at this point. Leaving Predator, driving to Gallagher’s Canyon for that 11am tee time for the final round of the trip.
  • I love this course.

Round 6 @ Gallagher’s Canyon – tee off at 11am

  • Game: 1 v 1 match play – The way the game was meant to be played.
  • 4 points per match (8 matches total remember)
  • Total available points in the Final Round = 32 points
  • The schedule will be determined Saturday night depending on a number of factors.

Animal House Summary:
